I have been working on a feature looking at the ways in which the waterways of the UK (and other countries I've no doubt) could help with the impact of climate change.

Rivers have been flowing and helping us humans for thousands of years. Their help was sort when we looked to kickstart the industrial revolution by helping in the transportation of goods over great distances. Many point to the birth of the industrial revolution as the starting point for the environmental damage we are trying to repair today.

So to is ironing that in many ways rivers, and canals, can help to offset the problems we are now having.

One way is in the form of hydro power, and this scheme in the historic town of Ludlow shows how an old mill, and it's mill race, can be modified to produce power for (in this case) up to 40 homes.

Apart from not emitting any solution while generating money as well as power, you also could be forgiven for not knowing it was there, were it not for this info board!

The turbine is in the small building next to the old mill across the river under some beautiful clouds.
