Flooding in Shrewsbury
If you live in Shrewsbury you will be used to flooding. We've seen it on a regular basis and for some reason the emphasis seems to be on building defences (walls).
This year's flood is the highest for 20 years, but it would seem the powers that be don't get the message. The best way to stop this is to tackle climate change and put in place natural defences. Increase wetland areas up-stream, reintroduce beavers, stop building on flood plains.
Instances of this type of flooding are increasing. Question is how much more frequently and how much more damage will it take before governments work with nature and stop trying to fight it?
